Insights Brief - technical virtual workshop ‘Towards building forward better together: finding solutions to enable civil society’

Dear all,

I am pleased to share the Insights Brief capturing key findings from the 2 June 2021 technical virtual Workshop ‘Towards building forward better together: finding solutions to enable civil society held on the occasion of the 2021 virtual OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) Civil Society Days (CSDs) (27 May - 4 June).

I want to express my sincere appreciation to the DAC, other official providers, partner country government representatives, civil society, and colleagues from across the DCD and OECD who participated and contributed to this Workshop and to the CSDs more broadly.

For those who missed the high-level virtual event: “A Call to Action: Enabling civil society in the context of Covid-19 held on 04 June, a video of the event is available here.

Building on the momentum of the OECD DAC Civil Society Days, I am delighted to inform you that the DAC has committed to undertake more robust actions to enable civil society through the adoption - on 6 July - of its DAC Recommendation on Enabling Civil Society in Development Co-operation and Humanitarian Assistance. The Recommendation is the first international standard focused on the actions of donors that is specific to civil society as a contributor to the 2030 Agenda and its pledge to leave no one behind, and to protecting and strengthening democracy.

We welcome other international organizations and countries that are not DAC members to consider adhering to the DAC Recommendation and encourage CSOs to align with its provisions.

Please do not hesitate to contact the FOR Unit, [email protected]; [email protected]; or [email protected] for further information.

Best regards,

Jorge
